Norder Band is one of the most technically and logistically advanced service centers for stainless steel processing in Europe. The company has been pursuing a clear sustainability strategy for years – with defined goals, organizational anchoring, and the full support of management. As part of the Glave Group, Norder Band has already calculated its corporate carbon footprint (CCF), creating a solid data basis for systematically analyzing and reducing emissions. Sustainability is not seen as a cost factor, but as a strategic investment in the future.

Initial situation

In recent years, the demand for product carbon footprints (PCFs) has risen significantly – customers increasingly wanted to understand the emissions associated with the components they were supplied with. Until now, however, determining this data has been a time-consuming process: relevant information was stored in different systems, methodological questions often remained unanswered, and there was no structured process in place. Calculating a single PCF took around 1.5 hours on average – a manual effort that was neither scalable nor sustainable in the long term.

Challenge

Norder Band wanted not only to meet increasing demands, but also to actively shape developments. The goal was to be able to provide PCF data automatically – accurately, consistently, and on a large scale. To do this, the company needed a solution that was methodologically robust, technically integrated, and easy to use in everyday practice.

Why Tanso

Back in 2024, Norder Band and Tanso had already successfully calculated the Glave Group's corporate carbon footprint. The collaboration was characterized by trust, methodological depth, and pragmatic implementation strength. On this basis, the decision was made to also implement PCF automation together with Tanso. The decisive factors were the ISO-compliant methodology, the flexible API architecture of the platform, and the close cooperation between the sustainability and IT teams of both companies.

Implementation

The aim of the project was to develop an interface between Norder Band's ERP system and the Tanso platform in order to perform PCF calculations fully automatically according to Tanso's certified methodology.

The project was successfully implemented over a period of just two months.

Both teams worked closely together:

  • Methodologically, to precisely coordinate the calculation logic and data basis.
  • Technically, to develop a stable, high-performance API integration.
  • Operationally, to ensure that the solution is seamlessly embedded in existing processes.

Since going live, all relevant order data has been processed automatically. Based on this information, Tanso calculates the PCF for each order – standardized, reproducible, and in real time.

Results

Transparency for customers

Norder Band customers automatically receive the PCF value of their orders and can integrate this directly into their own carbon footprint (CCF). This not only strengthens regulatory compliance and supply chain transparency, but also credibility with stakeholders.

Efficiency & scalability

Thanks to automation, up to 5,000 PCFs can now be calculated daily – with complete data quality and minimal effort. The annual time savings amount to around 360 hours. With the planned expansion to weekly PCF calculations, this potential will increase significantly once again.

Sustainability pioneer in the industry

Norder Band is thus one of the first industrial companies to provide PCF values automatically and in accordance with ISO standards. The company is thus strengthening its position as an innovation and sustainability partner in the supply chain.

Outlook

The automation of PCF calculation forms the basis for further digitalization steps in sustainability management at Norder Band.

Additional functions are to be integrated in the future, including:

  • Extended customer reports and scenario analyses
  • Integration of further primary data from the supply chain (Scope 3)
  • Derivation of concrete decarbonization measures based on the calculated PCFs
