EFRAG resources for CSRD reporting

Zwei Nachhaltigkeitsmanager die eine Visite machen

What is EFRAG and what role does it play in the CSRD?

Die European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) is committed to supporting stakeholders in implementing the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). As part of this commitment, EFRAG regularly publishes non-binding explanations that answer technical questions about ESRS. These explanations show where the relevant content can be found in the standards and provide guidance.

ESRS Q&A Platform

EFRAG continuously updates its explanations on stakeholders' technical questions regarding the ESRS. Companies must apply these standards as part of CSRD reporting.

Most recently, in December 2024, it published an update bringing the total to 157 explanations, which are essential for understanding and effectively implementing the ESRS. Following the European Commission's adoption of the simplified ESRS on 3 July 2026, EFRAG will provide new guidance and explanations going forward via the ESRS Knowledge Hub, which has reflected the current status of the ESRS 2026 since December 2025.

Questions about the ESRS and their implementation can continue to be submitted via the EFRAG ESRS Q&A Platform.

Implementation guidance for the ESRS

EFRAG has finalized and published three pieces of Implementation Guidance (IG) for the ESRS. These documents reflect public feedback and provide detailed instructions to support ESRS implementation:

EFRAG IG 1: Double Materiality Assessment

This guidance document describes an exemplary process for materiality assessment for organizations. It explains the concepts of impact and financial materiality with practical examples and includes FAQs to support the double materiality assessment.

EFRAG IG 2: Value Chain

This document describes the reporting obligations for the value chain, from the materiality assessment through to metrics and targets. It includes a "value chain map" that summarizes the disclosure requirements across all ESRS.

EFRAG IG 3: Detailed ESRS Data Points

This guidance translates the full list of detailed requirements from ESRS Set 1 into an Excel format useful for a data gap analysis or data collection, including an explanatory note on the list of data points.

All three documents, along with the related explanations, can be found together on the official EFRAG page.

By prioritizing this guidance, EFRAG aims to support organizations and stakeholders in implementing the ESRS and to ensure they focus on the most relevant aspects of the standards. With the transition to the simplified ESRS 2026, which become mandatory for financial years beginning on or after 1 January 2027, EFRAG will update this guidance step by step.
