Your ESG data now talks to your AI

Sustainability managers at industrial companies know the problem: the data sits in the ESG software, verified and structured. But as soon as a management report is due, a questionnaire needs answering, or an internal dashboard needs building, the manual work begins: exporting data, pasting it into spreadsheets, writing texts, building presentations.

That changes today. With the Tanso MCP server, Tanso opens its platform to the AI assistants you already use every day: Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, Langdock, and more. For the first time, these tools can directly and securely access your verified ESG data in Tanso, reading and writing, under your Tanso user and role permissions, and under your control.

The MCP Server marks the next step in Tanso's AI strategy: following the launch of Tanso AI and specialized AI agents, we are now opening our platform specifically to the AI infrastructure our customers already use.

What is MCP, and why does it matter?

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol: an open, industry-wide accepted standard that enables AI assistants to access external data sources directly: structured, secure, and bidirectional.

Instead of workarounds like exporting data from Tanso and manually uploading it in your AI tool's chat, the AI assistant connects directly to the source via the MCP Server and queries exactly what it needs.

What the Tanso MCP server enables

The Tanso MCP server makes your sustainability data accessible to AI assistants according to your organization's rules. In practice, this means:

  • Read and write: AI assistants can query and analyze data from Tanso and, where enabled, also create activities. All changes made by an AI assistant appear in the audit trail and are traceable at any time.
  • Your permissions apply: Tanso's role and permission model applies in full: every user sees  what they are allowed to see in Tanso directly via the AI assistant.
  • Open standard: The MCP Server can be connected to the AI assistants in your existing IT landscape.
  • Privacy at the highest level: Connections are authorized via an OAuth process. Tanso is GDPR-compliant and ISO/IEC 27001 certified.

How you can use it in practice

Sustainability managers can use the MCP server in a variety of ways right now:

  • Management reporting at the push of a button: Ask your AI assistant: “Which Scope 3 categories have grown the most since last year?” Then have it build a presentation slide or management briefing directly from the answer. No manual exports, no copy-pasting numbers.
  • Filling out questionnaires with verified data: Customers, banks, and auditors submit ESG requests. The AI assistant reads your ESG data points, KPIs, and Double Materiality Assessment results directly from Tanso and can pre-fill questionnaires accordingly.
  • Keeping processes on track: “Which data requests are overdue, and who is responsible?” Your AI assistant checks the current status of all tasks in Tanso and flags outliers.
  • Proactively managing CSRD reporting obligations: “Which ESRS data points are still missing for our mandatory reporting?” The AI assistant checks the completion status of all requirements in Tanso and provides early warnings before deadlines become critical.

Beyond this, the AI assistant can search for emission factors, check progress against reduction targets, and validate files against the Tanso format before import.

What this means in practice

„The MCP Server is genuinely attractive for small teams like ours that have to cover a huge range of topics. I can upload what our subsidiaries send back to me and say: ‘Turn this into activities.’ Tanso AI decides what the best approach is. Especially when you have many subsidiaries, that’s phenomenal.“

„For updating EcoVadis questionnaires, we estimate 2 to 3 days per questionnaire, including internal review and sign-off. With the pre-filled questionnaire, the sustainability report, and Tanso data available via the MCP Server, answers can be prepared in an AI assistant, including page references. All we do at the end is review.“

The Tanso MCP server is an important building block for an AI landscape that is truly integrated into your daily work: no isolated tools, no manual bridges. The human decides, the agent executes. And your sustainability data remains verified, protected, and under your control.

For management, the Tanso MCP server represents a concrete step toward digital corporate governance: ESG data flows directly into the AI infrastructure the company already uses. Sustainability management thus shifts from a silo to an integrated component of digital corporate leadership.
