Switching Corporate Carbon Footprint Software: sun garden reduces effort by 66% and costs by 20% with Tanso

Case Study: How sun garden calculates its Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF) with less effort and lower costs using Tanso software.

About sun garden

The sun garden group is an internationally active manufacturer of garden and leisure furniture as well as cushions and upholstery solutions for both indoor and outdoor use. With many years of experience, in-house production, and a strong focus on quality and design, sun garden supplies retailers and industrial partners worldwide. Sustainability is a central part of the company’s strategy and includes responsible sourcing of materials, efficient production processes, and the continuous reduction of environmental impacts across the value chain.

Initial situation

Starting in 2020, sun garden initiated its first concrete sustainability measures, driven by increasing customer requirements and growing market pressure. A key element was the development of the Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF), which was initially carried out manually using Excel and with external support. The goal was to create transparency around emissions and establish a solid foundation for further strategic decision-making.

With growing international operations and multiple production sites, it became clear that sustainability is not a one-time project but an ongoing management topic that requires structured processes, clear responsibilities, and reliable data.

Challenges

  • Decentralized and inconsistent data collection across multiple international sites
  • High manual effort due to Excel-based data collection and reliance on external calculation service providers
  • Long turnaround times for Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF) preparation
  • Limited data quality and traceability, as values were not consistently verifiable or aligned
  • Low time-to-value, as the focus was heavily on calculation rather than deriving concrete reduction measures
  • Additional coordination effort due to varying reporting requirements (e.g., EcoVadis, CDP, audits) that could not be centrally managed

Why Tanso

Sun garden was looking for a centralized, user-friendly solution with strong technical depth to manage sustainability in a holistic way. Key factors in choosing Tanso included seamless data migration, integrated Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF) calculation without external service providers, dedicated personal support, and the ability to combine reporting, reduction measures, and transformation planning within one platform.

Results after switching to Tanso

Shortly after switching from the previous provider to Tanso, measurable improvements became evident:

  • Cost savings of approximately 20% compared to the previous process
  • 66% reduction in time required to prepare the Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF) - from around six months with the previous provider to just under two months
  • Seamless migration of existing CCFs without any data loss
  • A centralized, audit-ready data foundation with clear traceability through integrated verification features in the software
  • Consistent and comparable emissions data across all sites, instead of isolated individual calculations
„By switching from our previous provider to Tanso, we were able to reduce the time required for preparing the Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF) by around 66%, while simultaneously saving approximately 20% in costs compared to the previous process.“

Outlook

Sun garden will use Tanso as its central software platform to manage sustainability in a holistic way. The goal is to independently and largely automate the preparation of the Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF) within four weeks. In addition, a VSME-based sustainability report, including additional data points for EcoVadis and CDP, will be created to efficiently meet growing customer requirements and rating requests.

Furthermore, a transformation plan with concrete reduction measures is planned. Sustainability data will increasingly be integrated into management and site-level decision-making. As a result, the focus is shifting from merely calculating the CCF to actively managing and implementing climate action measures.
