Affected Raw Materials and Products (EUDR)

The EUDR regulates trade in raw materials that can cause deforestation.

The EU regulation on deforestation-free supply chains (EUDR) regulates the import, export, and trade of specific raw materials linked to deforestation or forest degradation. This regulation, which came into effect in June 2023, particularly concerns seven relevant raw materials: beef, cocoa, coffee, palm oil, rubber, soy, and wood. Furthermore, all products containing these raw materials or produced from them are also covered by the EUDR regulations. This includes, for example, beef, chocolate, vegetable oils, furniture, and paper products.

The EUDR requires market participants to demonstrate that the affected raw materials and products are deforestation-free, produced in accordance with the legal regulations of the country of origin, and substantiated by a due diligence declaration. This declaration must contain detailed documentation on the origin of the raw materials as well as evidence of compliance with deforestation-free requirements. The scope of the EUDR extends to all companies, regardless of their size, that place or process these raw materials in the European Union.

The EUDR promotes traceability in supply chains and sets new standards for sustainable business practices. Compliance with these regulations is crucial for the protection of forests and the preservation of biodiversity, with companies facing new challenges in making their supply chains more transparent and sustainable.
