Climate Protection Measures (SDG 13)

These measures aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate changes.

Climate protection measures (SDG 13) are essential political, economic, and societal activities aimed at combating climate change and limiting its effects. A central goal is to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, particularly CO_, in order to limit global temperature rise to a maximum of 1.5 degrees Celsius and achieve greenhouse gas neutrality by mid-century. In addition to emission reduction, adapting to already unavoidable climate impacts is also of great significance. This includes protection against extreme weather events and strengthening the resilience of societies and ecosystems.

It is required that climate protection and adaptation measures be systematically integrated into national policies and planning, particularly in the energy, transport, buildings, and agriculture sectors. Education and awareness-raising play a crucial role in sharpening awareness of climate issues and building capacities at various levels. International cooperation is also necessary, especially through climate financing, to support developing countries in emission reduction and adaptation to climate change.

In Germany, the measures are concretized in the form of the Climate Protection Act, which establishes binding targets for greenhouse gas emissions, as well as through specific programs such as the Climate Protection Plan 2050. The full implementation of these measures is crucial to achieving the set climate goals and sustainably strengthening societal and economic resilience against the consequences of climate change.
